Fun Family Photography in Kansas City by Denise Williams Photography » Kansas City's Family Photographer

I am not a newborn photographer.

I took a shot at it in the beginning and I figured out I’m not cut out for managing all the gear that goes with photographing them. More times than not, that is what new moms want so I knew me and newborn photography were not a fit.

However, when it comes to family and friends and keeping it simple and authentic- I love to capture newborns! And I did just that about a month ago.

I posted a sneak peek of this sweet guy on facebook. I love that I was able to get his eyes.

I just so happen to be related to him and this just happend to be one of those simple, no frills moments when I got to capture him in his first days here on this earth. What an honor!

Here are a few more of this snuggly guy.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

I’m not sure how much you celebrate this day with your honey or your family, but this photo booth is sure to bring some fun to your day! It only took me about 10 minutes to set this up. Maybe a few more to gather my girls and shoot the photos. The end result are some fun photos to remember Valentine’s Day 2015. Give it a try!

DIY V-DAY PHOTO BOOTH

1. FIND GOOD LIGHT.  Look for a spot in your house that has some filtered light. (For me this was right by my front door) Other places could be by a window or sliding glass door. Make sure there is no direct sun shining in.

2. GRAB SOME PHOTO PROPS. Get in to that dress up bin if you have one! Some ideas are in the photo below.

3. FIND A BACKGROUND. I used my daughter’s fuzzy blanket. You could also use a sheet, poster board, or a piece of fabric. Black poster board could be used as a chalkboard background.

4. SET YOUR BACKGROUND UP. I set my background up over two chairs. You could do this on a door that faced a window or have two people hold your background up.

5. GET YOUR PEOPLE AND HAVE FUN! I let my girls have at the props and pose how they wanted (obviously). The more you try to control, the more the fun goes out the window. I had to crop in tight since my shooting area was a little cramped. Because I was shooting by the front door, I could open the door and back up a bit.

She is pointing to the word LOVE on her shirt. I realize it looks like she could be pointing to something else. I still loved this shot, so included it. (below)

People either seem to really love Valentine’s Day or despise the pressure of this “holiday”. (Ahem, any guys out there?:)

I love it for the chocolate and the good reminder to tell the people closest to me that I love them.

I thought I’d share a couple of cute gift ideas with you. I take absolutely no credit for these. Pinterest is my friend in this case…..Click on the title of each gift to go to the pin so you can see who the creative people are who thought of these. At the bottom there is a link to my DWP Pinterest page.

1. Loving Deck of Cards

This might take awhile, but I think it’s a gift that would keep on giving.

2. Photo Blocks

These blocks are a great way to use those photos you have sitting on a cd, thumb drive or your computer!

3. Heart Wreath

This is another great way to use your photos. What a fun decoration to pull out each Valentine’s Day.

There are more fun gift ideas pinned on my DWP Pinterest Gift Idea Board. Would you do me a favor? Go follow all my DWP Pinterest boards! Go HERE to check them out!
