I love sweets. I love to bake. Ninety-nine percent of sweets I make include chocolate.
This is not a good thing when you are trying to eat healthy! But I refuse to ban sweets altogether. You gotta live a little!
So in my quest to eat healthier, I have searched out “healthier” treats. I make every effort to use whole ingredients vs. processed.
One day while looking for a snack I was perusing the granola bars selection at the store. I started checking the ingredients. It was pretty difficult to find a box that didn’t have an ingredient list the size of a newspaper article. I was fed up with all the hidden/unknown ingredients, even in the healthier brands. I put the box back and thought to myself, I can make granola bars myself and they will probably be better!
So I searched out a recipe on my phone and found these 5 Ingredient Granola Bars by the Minimalist Baker. I grabbed the ingredients I needed and was off to make them.
Granola Bars – The Recipe
Let me start off by saying, these granola bars turned out so yummy! Obviously, or I wouldn’t be posting them for you to enjoy.
The base recipe for these granola bars contains only five ingredients: dates, honey, peanut butter, almonds and oats. I added a few things in at the end. Mini chocolate chips (of course) and flax seed.
One helpful tips when mixing everything with the dates is to use your hands. It was the easiest way to incorporate everything evenly. I also followed their tip for toasting the oats
Here is the full recipe found at the Minimalist Baker. Lots of great photos there too!
Leave a comment if you tried these granola bars and let me know how you liked them. Enjoy!
